Appointments

Routine appointments for GPs and nurses can be requested by telephone, in person at the surgery. We will soon be able to offer online booking again through the NHS app.

Routine appointments are available Monday to Friday mornings and afternoon, routine appointments can be booked two weeks in advance.

If you would like an evening or weekend appointment, we can offer this through the extended access service which is located at Belmont surgery. Our reception team will be able to book this for you.

You can request a face to face appointment or a telephone appointment.

Urgent Appointments

We have appointments every morning and afternoon that are bookable on the day for patients who feel they have a problem that can not wait until the next available bookable appointment.

Urgent appointments are triaged by telephone, a clinician will ask to see you face to face if required.
Please do not be offended if the reception team ask the nature of your concern, this is to ensure you are seen by the appropriate clinician.

Telephone Consultations

We have a number of routine telephone consultations each day, if you would prefer a telephone appointment please request this when you call to make your appointment.

Cancelling Appointments

Please inform the surgery if you cannot attend your appointment.

Missed Appointments

In common with most GP surgeries and Hospital Outpatient Departments we do experience patients not turning up for their appointments - you may be familiar with term used to describe this - "DNA" standing for Did Not Attend. we realise that in a lot of cases this is due to unavoidable circumstances or simple forgetfulness. Please don't be a "DNA" as we are experiencing considerable demand for appointments and we would like to make best use of our time to see our patients. If you repeatedly miss appointments you may receive a letter from our practice manager asking you to explain why this is happening, repeated DNA's could result in being removed from the practice list.

SMS Reminders

We now offer SMS text reminders for your upcoming appointments, if you wish to not receive SMS reminders please inform our reception team. Your details will not be passed on to any other parties.

How can I see a GP if I'm away from home?

If you're away from home and need to see a GP, you can contact any GP surgery nearby.

Find a GP surgery near you

You can receive emergency treatment from a GP surgery for up to 14 days – for example, if you fall ill while on holiday.

If your treatment will last longer than that, you'll have to register as a temporary or permanent resident.

You can register as a temporary resident if you're in the area for longer than 24 hours but less than 3 months.

If you'll be in the area for longer than 3 months, you'll have to re-register as a temporary patient or permanently register with that practice.

Read more about registering with a GP surgery.

Alternative services

If you need medical advice or treatment but do not need to see a GP, there are some alternatives you can try instead.

For example:

  • NHS 111 can direct you to the best place if you think you need medical help right now – you can call 111 or use NHS 111 online

  • pharmacist can provide advice and treatment for minor conditions that do not need a prescription

  • minor injuries unit (MIU) provides treatment for less serious injuries, such as sprains, broken bones and wound infections

  • walk-in centre deals with minor illnesses and injuries, such as infections and rashes

  • sexual health clinic (GUM clinic) provides testing for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and contraception advice

These services do not require you to make an appointment or register as a patient.
