GP Retirement - Dr Graeme Wylie.
It is with great sadness to share the news of our Senior Partners retirement, Dr Wylie has been at the practice for 30 years and will be a big miss to our team and patients, we wish him a happy and relaxing retirement and thank him for the outstanding patient care he has delivered to our community.
Here's a few words from Dr Wylie
You will probably be aware that I have not been able to work for the past several months due to ill health. Sadly, I have not managed to recover in time before my planned retirement at the age of 65 years. As such, I have not had the chance to say goodbye to any of you personally.
It has been my privilege and pleasure to have served as your GP for the past 30 years. I have so many fond memories of my time at West Rainton, and I will treasure these always.
I am confident that I leave you in the capable hands of the fantastic team at West Rainton Surgery.
Dr Graeme Wylie”
From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from:
the NHS App which you can download from app stores
It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use this service.
If you cannot access the online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119. Only call 119 if you are due to travel abroad in the near future and have had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive.
This practice is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.
When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the gov.uk website. Make sure there is time to get proof of your vaccination status before you leave.
Have we got your mobile number?
To help us invite you for your vaccinations and contact you on other matters please let us have your mobile number. If you think we may not have your mobile number in our records please contact the surgery. Thank you.
COVID 19 Vaccination (Pfizer/Astra Zeneca/Moderna) - Patients are being contacted by telephone to be invited for the COVID 19 vaccine, starting with the most vulnerable patients. You will be contacted once we receive notification of vaccine deliveries, however often we get only get 24 hours notice, therefore clinic dates and times cannot be set in advance.
The vaccine is currently being delivered at Bowburn Community Centre for our patients and all information will be given when we contact you to book you in for your vaccine.
Please do not contact the surgery to enquire about the vaccine. We are extremely busy at present with general queries and also trying to arrange vaccine clinics and contact patients to book their vaccine appointment at very short notice. Please be assured you will be contacted. Thank you for your understanding.

Did you know…?
We are participating in a new approach to improve access for patients to GP appointments. The aim is to direct patients to the most appropriate healthcare professional, which may be a GP or a pharmacist.
From 5th July 2021 if your symptoms could be resolved by a booked consultation with the pharmacist instead of the GP, you will be given a same-day referral to a pharmacy of your choice.
We think this is a good thing. Once you see how great your local pharmacist is – they are highly trained and skilled clinicians experienced in treating minor illnesses – we don’t think you’ll look back.
This will also help us to free up GP appointments for people with more complex health needs and ensure that everyone gets treated at the right time, by the right healthcare professional.
We are keen to hear what you think and will be listening to your comments and feedback about your experience of using this service.
Practice Training Days
On training days the practice will close on the afternoon and you will be unable to collect prescriptions or to have an appointment as there will be no doctors on the premises.
Training days are scheduled for:
Thursday 9th December 2021

NHS Digital has been collecting data from GPs through its trusted General Practice Extraction Service. This system is now being replaced with their new General Practice Data for Planning and Research (GPDPR) service, a broader general-purpose collection which will enable faster access to pseudonymised patient data for planners and researchers.
The data collection will begin on 1st July.
More information about the service can be found on NHS Digital's website.
We now include this additional privacy notice, alongside our main privacy notice, that explains what data is used and why.
If you don’t want your identifiable patient data to be shared for purposes except for your own care, you can opt-out by registering a Type 1 Opt-out or a National Data Opt-out, or both. These opt-outs are different and they are explained in more detail on the NHS digital website. Your individual care will not be affected if you opt-out using either option.
The type 1 opt-out form can be downloaded from our website returning this form .
